Face Lift (Rhytidectomy)
To improve sagging facial skin, jowls and loose neck skin. This is accomplished by removing excess skin and fat, tightening the muscles, and re-draping the skin of the face and neck. There may also be some more recently developed techniques described by Dr. Yousif which limit the scars and reposition the deeper structures of the face.
Anesthesia and Surgery Facility
General anesthesia is the recommended approach. It is recommended and beneficial to remain inpatient for an overnight stay. Operative time varies depending upon the techniques used and if other facial rejuvenation procedures are included; 3-6 hours.
Side Effects
There is temporary bruising, swelling, numbness and tenderness of the skin as well as a tight feeling to the neck and face and possibly dryness to the skin.
Risks
There is a slight risk that injury to the nerves that control facial muscles or feeling may be temporarily or in rare cases, permanently effected. There is also a risk of infection, bleeding, poor healing, excessive scarring, asymmetry or change in hairline position.
Recovery
This may vary depending upon the extensiveness of the procedure and the technique used. However, most individuals return to work or social environments in 2-3 weeks. More strenuous activity is limited for at least 2 weeks and possibly up to 4 weeks. Bruising and swelling is expected for the first 2-4 weeks. It is important to limit exposure to the sun for several months.
Duration of Results
Most individuals enjoy their results for at least 5 years and often times as long as 10 years.
Before and After Photo Gallery
Although each person's results will defer, before and after photos are good examples of potential changes. They should be used not only as a comparison of techniques and surgeons, but are a good starting points for evaluation, comparison and discussion with your surgeon.
