Rhinoplasty
This procedure is performed to reshape the nose by changing the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrowing the span of the nostrils, or changing the angle between the nose and the upper lip. It may also be performed to relieve some breathing problems (sometimes covered by medical insurance.)
Anesthesia and Surgery Facility
General anesthesia is the most common approach. This is routinely an outpatient procedure. Operative time varies from 1 to 2 hours or more.
Side Effects
There is expected temporary swelling, bruising around the eyes, nose and headaches. There may also be some bleeding and stiffness.
Risks
These include infection, small bursts of blood vessels resulting in tiny permanent red spots, or incomplete improvement requiring additional surgery.
Recovery
This may vary depending upon the extensiveness of the procedure. However, most individuals return to work in 1 to 2 weeks. More strenuous activity is limited for 2 to 3 weeks. It is important to avoid hitting the nose and limit sun exposure for 8 weeks.
Duration of Results
Permanent.
Before and After Photo Gallery
Although each person's results will defer, before and after photos are good examples of potential changes. They should be used not only as a comparison of techniques and surgeons, but are a good starting points for evaluation, comparison and discussion with your surgeon.
